The Pelvic Floor: Discovery and Integration with the Feldenkrais Method
San Francisco, Thursday March 8 to Sunday March 11, 2012
This workshop will cover what you need to know to comfortably include pelvic floor function in Awareness Through Movement® and Functional Integration®. You will apply principles of the method to discover how the pelvic floor is involved in action for both men and women. Your male and female clients with a history of back or pelvic pain, incontinence, hip replacements, childbearing, abdominal surgeries, prostate problems or surgery, as well as dancers, equestrians, and other performers, will benefit from this approach.
This workshop will focus on the integration of the pelvic floor for breathing, bladder control, pelvic pain and sexuality.
The workshop will include relevant functional anatomy, physiology and research evidence to lay the groundwork to creatively meet the needs of your students. The basics of how to teach a pelvic floor workshop will covered.
Practitioners can also enjoy personal benefit as well. The advanced training is appropriate for all practitioners.

The Pelvic Floor: Power and Finesse
San Francisco, Thursday June 21 to Sunday June 24, 2012
In Part Two of the program, there is greater focus on the pelvic floor in the context of action systems of the body in the environment, as well as exploration of Feldenkrais' notion of 'pelvic control'. We will study the pelvic floor system as it contributes to locomotion and the organization of the spine. We will experience how power and precision in the use of the pelvic floor - with the muscles of the hips and low back - contributes to better balance and performance. Including the pelvic floor in ATM® and FIsm can help your clients dealing with chronic back pain, hip and knee replacements, balance challenges due to ageing, injury, neurological conditions, or foot and arch pain.
There will be brief reading assignments looking at recent research into the pelvic floor system, pathologies, as well as reviewing relevant chapters in The Potent Self and relating Feldenkrais' ideas to real practice.
There will be plenty of time spent with FI, learning to meet the needs of these specific client groups, coaching for teaching pelvic floor workshops and of course, ATM that will increase your repertoire of lessons for improving the pelvic floor system.
Times: Thursday 12-6, Friday 12-6, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 10-3.
Total: 20 contact hours of continuing education. Maximum number of participants: 12.
Price: $400.00, after June 1: $450.00. Register online now, or call us on (415) 826-3680.
Cliff Smyth and Deborah Bowes have created learning resources pages where you can download some of his presentations on topics such as Practices for Successful Practice, Feldenkrais case studies, resources for pelvic health and awareness, an educational ideas bibliography and powerpoints on the relationship between 'thinking' and 'moving'.

Breathing and Balance: Sunday April 22, 2012: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
We will learn to utilize this important functional relationship to enhance the depth and effectiveness of each lesson that we give. When we further our ability to access spontaneous breathing in moments of living that demand balance and stamina, generalized improvement will spread to all aspects of our functioning. Included in the tutorial will be ATM lessons specific to this theme, learning more effective self organization for the precise and safe use of compression in FI and a private FI lesson for each participant to address personal questions and needs.
Class size is limited to allow for one-to-one coaching. The tutorial will include ATM to illuminate our theme, FI demonstration and supervised practice. A private Functional Integration lesson for each participant is included, scheduled separately.
Fee: $190. (includes a private FI lesson, to be scheduled separately). Register online now, or call us on (415) 826-3680.
